Lagoa de Óbidos is the largest lagoon in Portugal, sitting on the Silver Coast roughly 90 km — about an hour — north of Lisbon, between Foz do Arelho and Bom Sucesso. Its shallow, waist-deep, mostly-flat water makes it one of the safest and most popular learning spots in the country.
A cluster of well-established schools operate here, drawn by the dependable thermal wind and the forgiving conditions: you can stand up across much of the lagoon while you practise kite control, and the medieval walled town of Óbidos is a short drive inland for days off the water.
Because it is sheltered and shallow, it is squarely a flat-water and freestyle spot rather than a wave destination — ideal for beginners and progressing intermediates.
Prices: A very competitive school scene keeps prices reasonable; many offer radio instruction and video feedback. Expect EUR 50–80/h private.
