Praia do Guincho, on the Atlantic edge of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park about 40 minutes from Lisbon, is one of Portugal's most famous and demanding kite and windsurf beaches. The Nortada funnels down the coast and regularly delivers 25+ knots through the summer, kicking up real Atlantic swell.
It is a powerful, wave-oriented spot with current and crowds — best suited to confident intermediates and advanced riders. Beginners are far better served by the Lisbon-area lagoons (Óbidos, Lagoa de Albufeira) or the gentler beach at Fonte da Telha, and most Guincho-based schools will take new students there instead.
The setting is spectacular: dunes, the green wall of the Sintra hills behind, and Cascais — with all its restaurants and nightlife — minutes away.
Prices: Guincho schools usually run beginner lessons at calmer nearby spots and reserve Guincho for stronger riders. Wetsuit essential year-round.
