Ventspils is one of Latvia's largest cities and sits directly on the Baltic Sea coast. The beach is long and sandy, well-maintained, and benefits from direct exposure to the westerly winds that dominate the eastern Baltic. Wind tends to be stronger and more consistent here than at Gulf of Riga spots.
The Baltic can produce meaningful wave and chop conditions, particularly during autumn and spring when storm systems track through. In summer, winds are lighter and the sea calmer, still offering pleasant freestyle sessions. The port infrastructure means some areas near the harbour mouth have restrictions, so kiters should use the main public beach area.
Ventspils itself is a lively, well-developed city with hotels, restaurants, and a distinctive colourful character. The Livonian Order castle and beach facilities make it a worthwhile destination beyond just kitesurfing.
