Engure sits on the southwestern shore of the Gulf of Riga, away from the main tourist trail. The beach here is wide and open, with the characteristic Baltic pine forest acting as a windbreak at the tree line but leaving the beach itself well-exposed to westerly and south-westerly winds.
The Gulf of Riga at Engure is very shallow for a considerable distance offshore, meaning flat water is almost guaranteed. This is excellent for beginners and for freestylers working on low-wind tricks. The lack of crowds is a major draw compared to Jūrmala.
Facilities are minimal — Engure is a small village — so riders should come prepared with their own food and water. The nearby Engure Lake Nature Reserve adds to the scenic character of the area.
