Pärnu Beach is arguably Estonia's most famous kiteboarding destination thanks to its long, wide sandy shore and the lively summer atmosphere of the city behind it. The beach faces west into Pärnu Bay and the Gulf of Riga, giving riders access to open water with light to moderate chop depending on wind strength and direction.
Westerly and south-westerly winds dominate and are most reliable during late spring and early autumn. Summer winds can be lighter, but thermal effects along the coast regularly produce afternoon sessions. When stronger winds arrive, more experienced riders can enjoy choppy wave-like conditions out in the bay.
Pärnu is a busy resort town, which means the beach can be crowded with swimmers and sunbathers during July and August. Kiteboarders typically launch from designated sections away from the main swimming areas. Local kite schools operate here during the summer season, making it a good place to take lessons.
The city itself offers excellent infrastructure — restaurants, hotels, spas and a vibrant nightlife — making Pärnu a great destination to combine kiteboarding with a beach holiday. Tallinn is about two hours away by road.
