Haapsalu Bay is one of Estonia's most sheltered kiteboarding spots, sitting in the historic coastal town of Haapsalu on the western coast. The bay's shallow, flat waters make it a natural choice for riders who are learning or who prefer smooth, unobstructed water for freestyle and freeride sessions.
Winds here are predominantly from the west and south-west, brought in from the open Baltic Sea. While not the most consistently windy spot in Estonia, summer months from May through September regularly deliver rideable sessions, especially in the afternoons when thermal and sea breeze effects combine.
The surrounding area is picturesque, with Haapsalu's medieval castle and wooden architecture adding charm to the kite experience. The town has cafes, accommodation and a relaxed pace that attracts kiteboarders as part of a broader outdoor recreation crowd.
Hazards include occasional boat traffic near the town harbor and some shallow areas with reeds near the shore. Riders should be mindful of swimmers during peak summer weekends and check local guidelines for restricted zones.
